And I agree with the user Ultratodd. Everyone can see what this really is, it is a case of "The Green Eyed Monster". Ashley is an exception to the rules. She manages to do it all and looks smokin' hot doing it so it makes you all feel like you need to work harder. And she writes exceptionally well, you can just feel the emotions. Look at her pictures down the side of her blog. She is so hot and there is no denying that. I want to see some of you blog criticizers post your pictures right now so I can tell you if you are hot or not. Ha Ha!eyerolleyerollsmilelaugh

Welcome, RunMan!

I feel that GOMI might not be the best place for you, however.

May I suggest the forums on LetsRun.com?  That's where most dudes with small angry man syndrome go.

I felt it was time for you all to have a reality check! You all are on a much lower level sport wise than this woman and all the others and that is why you are so angry. Here are some pictures I found for you all to drool over of Ashley Walshs': http://www.flickr.com/photos/ashleyringowalsh/ Some other ultra gals you can check out too that put Ashley to shame: Elliegreenwood.blogspot.com , JillPerry5.blogspot.com , frostysfootsteps.wordpress.com , Lisasmithbatchen.blogspot.com

I love Janae, but I really wonder how this transition is gonna work out for her. She's moving away from her family, that she's extremely attached to, to a one bedroom apartment in a place completely foreign to her. Billy is literally starting law school on her due date, and having been through that first year of law school myself, I know how there is literally no time for anything but studying if you want to succeed. She is going to be the sole caretaker of her baby 24/7 and now she won't have her family to support her or help babysit. I don't see a lot of time for running in her future. I forget where in CA Billy's family lives but I think it's much further down south from where they will be living so I doubt they will be able to help out watching the baby. I just don't see how she will be able to pull out a sub-3 hour marathon under these conditions…. All that said, I adore her and root for her big time, and she clearly has a ton of natural talent so I really really hope she can make it work.

I agree with you and I also hope the best for her.  The learning curve during that first year of law school is so steep (at least for me, coming from a more math/science background) and I literally did not have time for anything else.  I hope some of her family is able to go out to Cali after the baby is born and help them out, or that his family is closer than I remember.

RunMan, I totally agree with you.  Those other 4 ultrarunners are amazing.  Lisa Smith Batchen is my idol.  She actually talked me into doing my first ultramarathon (and I remembered her words when I struggled in my 3rd and 4th ultra) by showing me how much potential I had instead of making fun of me for how unfit I was at the time.  She puts her talents towards raising money for charity.  I've met Anna Frost, she's amazing and was just so humble.

How about some other amazing ultrarunner females to look up to: Darcy Africa, Sheryl Wheeler, Diana Finkel, Ann Transon, Nikki Kimball, Krissy Moehl?  All amazing athletes who work really hard for what they do.

I might have added your friend to that list in the future, but unfortunately the fact that everyone who criticizes what she said in her interview must be a fat loser will make her stick to my mind as a bad role model.

This forum is actually interesting.  Some people really do go overboard with their hateful comments (lets face it, no matter what you do there will be people who disagree viciously), but I like to read it because it gives me perspective on how what I write on the internet might be reacted to negatively.  My blog has been mentioned on this site before.  I took it, admitted my failings and tried to do better in the future.

Actually this thread was well on it's way to returning to it's original subject.  Hungry Runner Girl is both loved and disliked on this forum.  And most of the criticisms actually seem to be related either to how she presents/markets herself, or age old running debates (should someone be running while they are pregnant).

If you let sleeping dogs lie, I'm sure most people on this site will forget all about Ashley's interview and what bothered them about it.  For the most part ultrarunning blogs aren't popular enough to be main topics of conversation.

There's also amazing running strollers now and don't they have a treadmill. Moms' can get their training in during nap time.  And she seems so excited to be a mom that she's probably not going to want to leave the kid alone with a sitter anyways.

Lame.  This post had a very interesting dialogue and Ashley, Ashley's husband, or Ashley's BFFs can only come in and say "you must be fat and ugly!"  Nope, not crazy at all. drool

I never met Ashley in real life, but I followed her this past year when National Geographic ranked number one toughest race in the world which is the badwater 135 invited her out to experience their event personally which was incredible to say the least. That has never happened as far as I know in the history of the event. She is someone that I as well as many others look up to. Of course I will defend a person dedicated to my sport. As I wrote earlier I found it humorous that you all took offense to her blog as it was apparent her remarks were directed to those that had directly attacked her first. Yet you all instantaneously admitted to owning the celulitte comment, which implies your guiltiness of the initial attack. I certainly do enjoy reading the forums. The psychology behind all of the comments is simply fascinating.drool

I agree.  Maybe they can start a new In Defense of Ashley thread and we can get back to regularly scheduled HRG talk.  I found it very sad that she was eating a four day old salad and freezerburned bagel in her post yesterday, and that she has to blog on the floor due to lack of furniture now.  This move to CA can't come fast enough!

I mean, I think this is at least slightly the case for 60+ percent of people who just troll around being bitches on message boards.

No real snark here. I hope HRG's baby doesn't come early (this weekend). I know she is about two weeks before her due date.  The timing couldn't be worse to move out of state.  I hope she has some family that will stay with her for a few days after she has the baby.

Janae is a breath of fresh air compared to KERF and her Loaf.

I agree, I really like Janae,  and I wish her all the best.  She hasn't turned her pregnancy into an all-about-me fest that Kerf has,  bitching about every ache and pain,  and pretending she knows its all, not to mention trying to make money off her unborn fetus.  Janae will also be a much better mom, I'm sure of it,  she spends alot of time with her neices and nephews and really enjoys it.  For Kerf its all about the attention and material things,  she will pawn that baby off on Matt and Karen as much as possible,  I'm sure of it.

I really hope she doesn't go into labor w/o Billy.  I know first babies are usually late, but I had my first at 37 weeks so I'm freaking out for her.
