I can't imagine sending a kid to her first day of Kindergarten in this outfit, only because it's gonna SUCK when she has to pee

I feel terrible saying this, but that blog annoys the hell out of me. I know she has a special needs child and yes, she certainly seems to love her kids and takes great care of them, but it makes my teeth hurt. Everything is so *sparkly* and *unicorns* and *marshmallow puppies*. I don't know, it just bugs me.

Also, the clothes she buys for her kids seem ridiculously expensive. They both have Hunter boots which a cursory search tells me are close to $100 a pair, FOR KIDS.

Eh, the outfit is a bit over the top but she did mention that she and Lainey practiced to make sure she would be able to go to the bathroom easily.

And as far as the clothes go, there is no doubt that KH is an overconsumer the same way Taza and BBV are, but she has mentioned a lot in the past that she buys a lot of stuff secondhand/thrifting/through ebay for her kids. Which I give her a little credit for.

God, look at all that white knighting. Jeez, what is happening to me?

Not to WK, but the toddler Hunter boots, which I'm assuming Nella has (and maybe even Lainey? Depending on what size she is), are about $40. The "big kid" ones that have more of a heel to them I think are closer to $60. Still expensive, but far from $100 a pair.

But the way she dresses her kids bothers me. Sure sometimes they look adorable, but most of the time it's really dorky. Huge ruffle pants and ruffley socks and buns in their hair the size of a pencil eraser. Obviously how your kids are dressed isn't very important, and she obviously loves and cares for them greatly, but just my little snark for the day.

I generally like Kelle Hampton but gawd, I can't believe how freakin' dramatic her entry about Lainey's first day of Kindergarten was! I don't have kids, but is it really that tough to send your child off to school for the first time?

It can be. I used to smirk to myself over moms like this until I sent my third to K a few weeks ago. But he has special needs so maybe that's why it was extra hard? IDK, I came home and bawled. He did great though. smile

I usually like KH, but she's been making me roll my eyes lately and I'm not quite sure why. I think it's a combo of what everyone has said above. Too much sparkly unicorns. She's still a SOMI for me because her kids are cute and she seems genuinely kind.

I'm dying for her to have a boy.

I generally like Kelle, even though I don't have kids and her constant use of 'dude' and talk about unicorns and shit drives me up the wall. For some reason, I'm able to ignore all the annoying things (like having to apologise to her father for saying 'sucks' and 'shit'. What?). And I guess that being told your child is sitting by herself at recess and crying would be fucking awful and I think it warrants a bit of a dramatic post.

She's not a total GOMI for me, but I have never gotten into her blog.  Too foofy and rainbows and fake.  Plus, any blog with an unnecessary level of obsessive fangirls makes me barfy.

I actually like her blog, in an escapist housewife pr0n Pinterest kind of way. Just snarking how much it will suck if Lainey has to pee, even as a grown woman that would suck.

I love Kelle, too, though I can see how some would find her annoying and saccharine. She's just such a great mom and clearly adores her kids – it melts my cold, black, cynical heart.

I agree with her being a bit to sparkly, but overall I like her story and I think she writes pretty well. I just find her blog way to hard to read the way it is laid out, with the overabundance of large format photos.

I mean, they are beautiful pictures and all, but I don't need to see 40 pictures per post of two little blonde girls in ridiculous mis-matched outfits. They look the same as the 40 pictures from the post before. Seriously, 4-5 pictures is fine.

I can't imagine what it would have been like to have had a mother that absolutely enthralled with motherhood.  Kelle seems to completely enjoy being a mother and that is such a great thing for her family.  She can get a little too syrupy, and honestly, sometimes I will skim the post just to see the photos, but I was looking forward to the "1st day of school" entry mostly because I know how hard it was going to be for Kelle.  I really didn't think it was going to be that hard on Lainey, that caught me by surprise and kind of broke my cold little heart a little.

I think Kelle is a good mom and probably a really nice person.
One thing…
She once recounted a conversation she had with her good friend, a mom of 2 boys, wherein she compared her grief about Nella's diagnosis with the friend's grief about never having a daughter.
I *know* she wasn't equating being a mom of a child with special needs to being a mom of only boys, but still…ouch.
It sounded a little insensitive, but maybe the friend wasn't offended.
