I wonder if she has auto replace for normal words so they automatically tun into her stupid catchphrases.

From the house tour

" we can’t wait to figure this space out as we go."

Yeah, uh, Sherry, that doesn't actually make sense.

I cannot STAND Sherry's writing style.  It just screams "trying too hard" from start to finish. My pet peeve: The cutesy titles that leave readers wondering what the hell the post they're about to read is even about because she's, yet again, instead referencing some lame '90's one hit wonder.  Once or twice is cute.  Two dozen times, not so much.

Her voice is her voice. It's not mine, but it used to be authentic. I appreciated that. Now it obfuscates, and very obviously. She's spinning.

I'm not one to separate John and Sherry. I think they're like-minded. Whatever they're hiding – and they're hiding something – they're both on board. But he does a better job of just writing a post and leaving it be. She, OTOH, has become a corrupted version of what she was originally.

Seriously, the conspiracy thread gives me so much life. I love it.

I think her copy background was a plus when they first started out, but they've essentially been writing about the same "product" for, what, six years? Of course it's stale, she hasn't had any reason to grow or stretch as a writer.

It's been brought up in the main YHL thread multiple times, but she would benefit so much from taking some sort of workshop or night class. Not only would it get her out of the house and away from the codependent blog bubble, but different topics and some peer reviewing would do wonders for her schtick.

But who would drive her to the night class? John's parents?

That is why she said she "would love to take a photography class!" Oh, she would LOVE TO, but she couldn't get herself there without the help of someone else. Driving Mrs. Petersik. As boring and annoying as Driving Miss Daisy.

Morgan Freeman's face is a lie.

Sherry's driving. UGH. Brings me to the point of WHY?! I get that she grew up in Jersey and didn't need to (I guess), then lived in NYC and didn't need to, but she's still young and they live in the suburbs! Kids don't drive for the first 16-18 years of their life, but they still buck the eff up and get it done! It's called freedom and adulthood! Some people grew up in NYC (or another city with no need to have a license), but they get one anyway. If she was 60 and never had a license or drove I might concede and let it go, but she's YOUNG. With a kid and maybe more kids and John is expected to do ALL the driving and carpooling? If she has some kind of anxiety (severe or otherwise), I would maybe relent, but so far we've only been given the reasons above. I just don't get it and those reasons don't cut it. Especially if I were her husband/chauffeur.

Maybe someday she'll attempt a driver's license and create a sub-blog called Young Driver Love. rolleyes

I can't remember, does she have a license? I hope so. Even if she doesn't like to drive it's a good idea to be able to, especially in the suburbs. God forbid John got a job and had to go out of town. Maybe other people don't find it weird but I do. Although if she drives like she sews we're probably all a little better off having her in the passenger seat.

This was discussed a few weeks ago on the main thread.  SCC pulled this response when it was discussed at the time.  party0006

Leigh Anne says:

Oh and completely unrelated and weird that I’m asking, but, do you drive? As in, do you have a license? I’ve been meaning to ask this since the last video interview you and John did. He says at one point “since Sherry doesn’t drive…”

  • YoungHouseLove says:
OH yes, I have a license but I only drove the last year of high school when I lived in Jersey and then I moved to Manhattan so I sold my car and didn’t drive for 6 years while I lived in NYC. Then we moved to Richmond but since I worked from home and we were on a budget we got one car and John used it to get to work and I just worked from home and didn’t need it. 6.5 years later I have probably driven a handful of times (so I can do it in an emergency) but John’s the primary driver. So weird, right? But it totally works for us!

The not driving thing doesn't bother because she does have a license, but they only have one car. So, if she were to take off for a few hours for a solo mani/pedi (or whatever), John and Clara wouldn't have a car. And maybe she does. It doesn't sound like it to me, but whatever.

Whenever my huscat, the kids, and I are all together, he always drives. But we have 2 kids because we need 2 cars for our lifestyle (working parents).

More on topic, I'd love Sherry to take a sewing class. There would be a lot of blogging material and since she is a professional DIYer, she should know how to sew. Even if one of the appeals of their blog is that they have non-sewing projects as well. I just think it's analogous to having a high school music teacher that can't play piano–dude, it's your job.

Silly me, I was assuming she would be an adult and drive herself….
