I don't think it's weird at all. When my husband has his busy time, I have plans to peace out and visit my family. It's easier for everyone, and no one feels neglected or bored. I think the key is just being secure with your relationship and family, which obviously, Janae and Billy are rock solid.

I did think the other day they still eat out a lot…they seemed to have an endless supply of gift cards in Utah, maybe they still have those. I wish my family and friends gave those out!

She's basically said they live off the blog, she gets a couple of hundred comments per entry twice or thrice a day and not everyone comments so she'd definitely get thousands of page views a day, maybe over 10,000. I have adblocker on my computer but when I use my iPad there are ads all over her site (mostly trying to get me to meet single Asian or Russian women! lol) and she also has her sponsors' banners. Most of her running gear is for free now too. She also has affiliate links up for everything so more money.

Her husband has said he has loans, but they picked this school because of the 50% scholarship, I don't really know how scholarships work, can he take out a 100% loan, pay 50% and live off the other 50%? If so that wouldn't be too difficult to live off or repay. It's not a good market for law grads but like others have said, with his background and patent law plans he'll probably do well.

She also taught spin while she was still working full time and did some extra weekend driving work so she might have been saving hard, she said their cost of living was lower then, her gym was like $10 a month and they seemed to take almost all their food from her parents lol.

Okay, so now I feel really creepy for thinking that much about someone else's finances. It is interesting though because I have noticed they have a LOT of expensive things. I was on her "my gear" page recently and saw she had a road bike, a thing to clip the bike in so she can ride it inside WHICH COSTS $300?!?!, and then her spin bike which is in a garage somewhere. And that's after she sold her mountain bike. Do you really need ALL of those when cycling isn't your main sport? My other half and I work out daily and are embarrassingly consumerist when it comes to fitness yet our combined goods are nothing in comparison to her gear page – and we are both working professionals, no spawn. Maybe that's the difference between a hobby and an exercise addiction?

I dunno, maybe I'm completely wrong and their parents are supporting them until he finishes study.

Since the scholarship is through the law school it means the tuition bill in 50% less. Instead of 60,000 a year it would be 30,000 which could then be paid for with financial aid.

If a scholarship is through an outside score they are normally paid directly by the fund to the school. Especially since it would be a substantial amount. So often the student does not see any of the scholarship money directly in their pocket. This is so the money is used for its intended purpose of school, not anything else.

Now he can take the financial aid money and use it however he wants but only after X amount it paid towards schooling. Since financial aid goes first to the school. Random numbers used here, if he takes out $20,000 to cover the remaining cost of $10,000. The money first goes to cover the cost of school and any remaining money you get to "keep". This is only applies for graduate loans.

I however have no idea how private loans would work.  Which is another option for covering the cost of school.

I hope that makes sense.

Likely I would think he doesn't even have private loans. Just finished law school and I would take out the federal subsidized and un-subsidized loans and Grad Plus will cover the rest, including living expenses which are estimated by the school. As a 1 single person it was a reasonable amount to live on. Not a ton, but enough. The private loans right now have insane interest rates. I don't really know anyone who took them out for law school, except maybe to support them during bar prep if they didn't have a law firm paying for their prep.

Private loans are the LAST resort. I work in higher education administration, not financial aid and the idea that someone would take one out for school scares the daylights out of most in the field.

Private loans could also be "mom and dad" loans.  My catman and I took some money out of the Bank of Mom and Dad to buy our townhouse. smile

I think that's just a blog persona, because honestly, she has handled the motherhood thing as well as anyone. I mean, you have CailtlinHTP giving Henry "toys" made out of crap she has around the house, KERF complaining about everything Corn Dookie does as if a baby does things for spite, and Daily Garnish being codependent upon her 18-month-old to provide her emotional needs.

I think HRG is doing OK, despite how she comes off on her blog.

Does anyone think it's weird that she and Brooke are basically getting kicked out of the house during Billy's finals?

Nope. I backed off my husband while he was wrapping up his doctoral research and writing his dissertation.  It was kind of important to give him the time he needed to finish since his job was dependent on the degree and his degree gets us more money than mine.  It meant he stayed at work later hours to get stuff done, so I worked more & ran more.

high-five High five for being awesome, snarkyrunner. I always read it as a great sign of respect between the couple when one realizes how important it is for the other to focus on their studies.

I don't get it…what was so good about her last entry?

I liked the funny story about how Brooke ruined her shirt, but I wouldn't say it was particularly mature or good writing.

I was going through the archives again and she was nuts in 2010. She seems SO normal now by comparison – either that or she has learnt how to lie. One day she did spin plus stairs plus elliptical and then had breakfast of one piece of toast and an apple. And that was one of the days she had breakfast! She really seems to be doing much better now, I hope so for Brooke's sake.

What does Bangs Friend do? She always seems free during the day.

I just think her writing is so immature as in "the best cookie in the while wide world" and dumb stuff about hanging out with her friends EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for lunch and dinner (or so it seems).

I don't think many of those young Mormon women work…
