So many things I want to discuss!

Ok my most annoying mummy blog at the moment has to be BabyMac. She has a cycle of typical posts:

Look what I bought! (always something ridiculously expensive), look what I cooked! (lady Pikelets hardly make you a food genius) look at my fab house, no really look at my fab house, my kids are shits, parenting is so hard, seriously parenting is so hard, look I'm off on a fab expensive holiday (fly fishing in NZ at the moment with no kids & daily helicopter flights!), lookstthus alcoholic beverage I am drinking, cheers! (I seriously think she has a drinking problem), ok I need to get fit & healthy now. Repeat over & over again.

I have no idea how her readers can relate to her & her whining shits me to tears (in between the passive aggressive showing off about her life).

Ok that felt good.

I know some peeps on GOMi like Nirrimi and the road is home, but I don't find anything clever about a lack of capitals and being knocked up at nineteen.

I also don't think any nineteen year is as profound as they believe they are. The baby's middle name 'firebrace' only confirms this for me.

I feel her photography style will date, and I think papa's apparent lack of contact with his eldest child is both concerning and indicative of their immaturity.

But I could just be bitter and old and stuff.

I have never heard of that blog before, just had a quick look and I don't know what to think of it. I like the layout and the photography, but the writing? She writes as if she's 50 and knows everything about life.

She looks like she's 15 yikes

I just read the LA post: business class flight, driver, castle in the hills,.. drool

I'll keep on reading (…and there goes the weekend)….. anyone else having an opinion about them?

Is she for real? The writing is terrible, she seriously should have stuck it out at school it would have helped her writing. How are they paying for these trips etc? Through her photography? So many questions! Still every blogger is a 'photographer' these days. Yeah right.

I thought I'd comment – I've been following Nirrimi since she was 13-14 and Matt was 16 (through DeviantART as pretty-as-a-picture and matt-caplin). They were both really popular there but Matt has deleted his account. I read their stuff now every couple of months.

What I know:

They used to be family friends. They got back in touch years later after N googled M's name and found out they had a mutual interest in photography. Matt was with someone else at the time, her name was Courtney. He ended up finishing it up with Courtney and moving to Melbourne. He has one kid from Courtney born when he was 17, her name is Lily. At 16, Nirrimi stole her mother's credit card and booked a flight from Cairns to Melbourne to see Matt. They're been together ever since, staying with friends etc until renting out a place in Mt Victoria since last year. Matt's second daughter was born this year when Nirrmi was 19 (her name is Alba).

The baby's name Firebrace comes from Nirrimi's father (an Aboriginal elder). So, not made up but I'm pretty sure Nirrimi's real last name is Hakanson, her mother's last name. Matt's first daughter has his last name and I haven't seen any mention of her on any blog for at least two years (!) I was really hoping Lily would see Matt or Alba regularly, as I'm pretty sure Courtney moved to Sydney. As far as I know they are both paid photographers. In fact Nirrimi's work suddenly skyrocketed to a whole new level after she met Matt, and now their two styles are indistinguishable. I think he is the one with the exceptional raw talent, he just mentored her talent to get her where she is.

I feel a bit… I don't know, a bit like I'm sorry for her reading her posts. She has an air of self-consciousness about her and it kind of reminds me of soulemama. She always has her hair done a certain way for a lot of photos -side part, plaits etc. She makes a point of saying how they eat vegan and raw, how they baby wear, breastfeed and co-sleep, how they're going to unschool Alba. I feel kind of like she's putting on a show to fit this niche of arty earth mama so perfectly. I wonder how much is real. Also, I think a 16 year old that steals her mother's credit card and think it's great to fly interstate alone just simply hasn't had enough boundaries in her life.

For some lolz, here are her old sites:

A quick google shows Nirrimi is all over the interwebz, and no doubt her daughter will be, too. She is perhaps the ultimate mommy blogger – sharing her every thought online since her early teens!

This was actually the first and only post I read by this blogger. I was far to put off with the pretentious, absurd, faux-fantastical nature of it all.

In fact I kinda don't even what to acknowledge the blog because it's so silly and doing to only further legitimizes it…

I currently reside in Australia and have been fascinated with Nirrimi's story for a while now. I pretty much just don't get her, although I do see the trend among young mommy bloggers to have this thing for community and the goddess and the whole homebirth-breastfeeding-cosleeping-unschooling thing, which I do somehow get.

Anyway, I found this about Nirrimi's father http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/francis-firebrace-happiest-man-in-the-world and now I at least understand where she gets it from. yikes

This. I 'like' her in the sense of she seems a fairly nice girl. She says that she tries to love everyone she comes into contact with and that seems a nice message to bring your child up with…but yep the whole profound speak is a little grating.

I just read the LA post: business class flight, driver, castle in the hills,.. drool

I think the trip was paid for them, by a friend, when Nirrimi was going through some difficult stuff – there was mention of a court case on her Facebook page and it sounded serious, don't know what it was though.

I'm one of the catladies who 'likes' her. I don't think there's anything wrong with being pregnant at 19, to be honest, I mean it wasn't one of my life plans but they seem financially secure so why not? The lack of caps bugs the utter crap out of me, though…UGH!

I also don't think any nineteen year is as profound as they believe they are. The baby's middle name 'firebrace' only confirms this for me.

Yup. I agree. I die reading back on my old diaries for this very reason! I was under the impression that 'Firebrace' was her last name and it comes from Nirrimi's father who is either part/full Aboriginal?

I feel her photography style will date,

Yes. I have to agree. I know they are fashion photographers – my most hated form of photography – and this shows in their personal photos.

and I think papa's apparent lack of contact with his eldest child is both concerning and indicative of their immaturity.

I think it seems very odd – I read somewhere else that the other child is nearly 4 but you never hear anything on this other child EVER and before Alba was born they were constantly on the road so when exactly did Mexico/Matt have time for this other child!? I hope he's paying child support because he actually seems like a nice person but I agree that he seems very immature.

Wow Nirrimi's life story to date makes interesting reading!

I must say that I fear for the quality of her daughter's education when the person homeschooling her hasn't even finished school themselves.

OK BabyMac has just come back from an indulgent holiday in NZ & gushed about the place they stayed. I googled, slow night, & it is $1600/night. I knew she was rich but that amount of cash is insanity! She also got called out on her blog by someone saying that reading about the glamour of her life just makes them feel jealous so they're taking a break from it. She thanked them for their honesty. Am sure we'll have a post on the best way to butter toast shortly to show us how down to earth & 'just like us' she is. Blergh.

What does everyone think of Edenl@nd? I like reading about her travels but I do worry about her mental state in many of her posts. Also she LOVES Sweetney & Her Bad Mother so that is a strike against her in my book.

I have to agree with this. Everyone I know who home schools has a very decent education and they are completely clued up as individuals. Let's think about this for a moment: to be a teacher you have to be at least degree educated. Then there's teacher training. Some people can be smart without a degree, that's not my argument, but Nirrimi isn't one of those people. Her spelling is appalling and her grammar is shocking with it. I think it's a little bit rich to say you're more capable than a teacher to teach your child when you don't even have an HSC…

The photos of her holiday were – hrmmmm… that place in Blanket Bay is very very special (haven't been there but very familiar with the area).  I can see where her poster is coming from, but on the other hand I know tons of people like that around here, and I NEVER begrudge anyone have the money to play and enjoy life.  I just thought it was a bit boring showing that many holiday snaps!!!

I also can't stand 'a baby called max' – not sure if it still exists, but it was written by a woman who seemed really unstable, always presenting herself as a good-natured, sweet person who was constantly being victimised by others. Despite her complete lack of writing skills, her cloying blog became really popular and then suddenly she went private s someone 'bad' from her past had found her, or something that seemed made up and pointlessly dramatic. Total narcissist.

I like One Claire Day and Rummey Bears for pretty pictures but I LOVE mogantosh. So funny, written by an actual writer. I avoid looking at her blogroll though as she has dooce, nie nie etc in it – er why??

I really love Daze of my Life who just moved to Dubai & Good Golly Miss Holly is in my good books too.

Cannot stand Retromummy, she's up there with my most irritating bloggers ever due to her 'tee hee I love being a mummy. I love shopping too, just don't tell Retrodaddy as he wouldn't be happy!!!!! I was so naughty today having that chocolate. Teehee!!!!!' makes me gag just reading it.

Yes! Her tantrum about not winning was poor sportsmanship indeed. Also getting your husband to help put together your videos etc when that's what he does for a living made it a very unfair playing field.

The 'retrodaddy' bullshit makes me want to slit my wrists with a rusty knife. hehehe!

I'd sum up retromummy as twee, saccharine and irritating (and her eldest daughter is a shocking poser – too many staged photos since birth?) – but not nearly as irritating as her neighbour, beach cottage.

Beach cottage isn't really a mommy blog, more a design? DIY? blog. But jeezus, she would have to be the. most. boring. blogger. ever. Every time I hate read her blog about nothing, with its spelling errors and grammatical fails, I want to slap her.

Haha, Retromummy! Now there's the definition of saccharine. Her second daughter, the twin, has always secretly been my favourite, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that about her eldest. I'm jealous she can stay at home with so many kids and live on the Northern Beaches, and still have some extra dosh to hire a nanny and cleaner. I should tell Mr Muffin (teehee) to hurry up and work in the mines.

Retromummy is just plain boring. Every post is sponsored and then the few that aren't revolve around her baking something and eating it and needing to diet blah blah blah. I actually feel sorry for her though because she doesn't seem to get out much or have any relationships outside of her family…

Cherie from 'Raising Master Max' is a bit of a hate read for me. She seems of have a few issues and comes across as very self centred. I understand that she's had toxic people in her life but it takes two to tango and I don't think she's as perfect as she tries to make out.

I quite like Mrs Woog. I know she's friends with BabyMac (who I've actually never read) but I find her funny and a good writer.

Yes to the posing of Retromummy's eldest. I think she pimps her kids out more than any other mummy blogger out there & I think it will make for some narcissistic adults one day.

She also seems to stay up after midnight most nights doing blog posts etc & then boasts about how lucky she is to have a job that she can do from home so she can be a mummy. Excuse me but I would much rather clock off & not have to photograph every moment of my life while at home.

Cherie is a def hate read for me too. I think her husband actually sounds like an prick as he is always off on boys weekends & football etc while she is stuck home all day with her little boy. She gets out of the house without him & it is 'stop the presses' news. Which it shouldn't be.

I read Beach Cottage before she made the 'big time' & she has always been vanilla. How many photos of flowers in a vase can there be? It is all just dressed up ikea with some vintage thrown i. It's inoffensive but hardly exciting.

How do we feel about Danimezza? She's a plus sized fashion blogger who has been blogging for years. I liked her once upon a time but she comes across as so desperate for a buck, sponsored posts up the whazoo & she always embarrasses herself on twitter tweeting brands etc practically begging for freebies. Her incessant 'selfies' drive me up the wall. How many photos of yourself can you take?

Agree re Woogsworld being the best writer out there. When she is funny she is hilarious. I get the vibe she is getting over it all lately. Her latests posts are a bit ho hum for her.

I am loving this thread.

Re: 'Cherie' – I just think that most of what she has written is exaggeration, stories spun on half-truths that she then starts to believe, and consequently doesn't realise how often she contradicts herself. So yeah, her husband does come off as an arsehole but maybe that is part of the narrative. She definitely gives off the vibe of a person with a problematic personality, which is likely due to her traumatic childhood. But: her blog is shit and boring and painful.

I don't know any of those blogs mentioned (beach house, danimezza, retromummy [gag], dayz of my life etc). I am wary of the Woog one because I feel like she is the ring leader of all the Baby-Mac blogs that are so devoid of talent and all just suck up to each other, always leaving nice comments and having each other on their blogrolls. And then they all write self-congratulatory articles for Mama Mia, which is a pretty big hate read for me.

But then, as a pinko-leftist-feminist, nearly everything is a hate read for me.
