This blog has been getting on my nerves major lately. It started out as one of my faves but it's so sponsored now it's ridiculous. She doesn't even do anything remotely original now- it's all stuff she's found around the web and posted again. She had a "real" moment recently when she mentioned her husband losing his job but after that she didn't even post a "hey, thanks for all the awesome well wishes and support." It's just so fake and commercial like now. I think I'm going to stop checking in for sure.

I can't put my finger on what it is exactly but I agree that she's gone downhill. I just feel like mentally she's done with her website but it makes her money so she's sticking with it without creating things so much as just showing off things of others.

Agreed, 100%. I used to check in every day but now everything is sponsored. I can't really relate to someone who gets handed $10,000 every other week to redo a room she just redid.

I've always really, really liked Nicole and I talked to her briefly at one of the Renegade craft fairs in Chicago years ago and she was a total sweetheart, but I'm with everyone on the lack of realness on her blog. And that totally bums me out. I think it's because she used to be very budget-friendly and now she's being handed money to drop on $600 chairs from Anthropologie and entire rooms done by IKEA.

Her kids are effing adorable, though. And I have to say I absolutely appreciate that her blog didn't turn into a baby blog. Her kids are there, but there isn't a single weirdo bathtub photo.

I love her aesthetic, and I even like her fashion posts, which I usually skip on most blogs. That said:

I have no idea how much money she makes or how much they have saved back…but if my husband was unemployed and I had two small children, I'd have a hard time dropping $150 on a skirt that 1) gets dirty easily and 2) doesn't necessarily go with ANYthing I own already.

(I'm glad I found a place where I can loose a little mild snark. I'm the only blog addict among my friends, Pinterest browsing notwithstanding.)

Also, I just went to her actual site for the first time in a long time (to look at comments on that post), and I realized that some original content posts are filtering into the "Filing Cabinet" as opposed to the main feed.

I removed her from my reader recently because I found I was scrolling straight through more posts than I was reading.

Me too. I unsubscribed around the time when she kept saying she was putting more effort into her blog than ever, and yet it seemed like so much less. A week of posts was like: Light Fixture Roundup (Part XVIII), Monthly Photo of Kid in Chair, Pretty Dress from Anthropologie (yeah I browse the internet too), Painting More Trim White (Part XXXIV), and finally, Roundup of Interesting Things from Other Blogs You Probably Also Read. Repeat.

I feel bad saying it, because I do think she seems like a genuinely nice person. But it starts to annoy me when someone calls herself the "founder" of her blog, like it's some kind of empire, when it really just looks a lot like my Pinterest boards and Instagram account.

I'm not ready the majority of the design blogs in my reader these days and Making it Lovely is one of them.  Maybe I need to just jump ship and delete them.

I'd rather someone not post every day than post some of the junk that's out there.

This is the best summary of Making it Lovely I've ever read. There's also Making the Same Room Lovely Again (Part XXXXIX).

OH MY GOD. The "things I'm afraid to tell you" trend was one big masturbatory fest of crap, but hers was the one that made me cringe the most.

"I could have gone to a billion different Ivy League schools based on PSAT scores, but I ended up at a shitty community college because I was lazy. I'm smart. I SWEAR. LISTEN TO ME. I'M SMART."

Or at least that's how I remember that post.

Yeah, because that's totally how it works. All you need is a high PSAT score and bam! You're in.
