Katie Bower is a total GOMI. I had to stop hate-reading after the corporal punishment post (not trying to open a can of worms about that), but I checked in again today… still no taste, no class. Anyone else love to hate?

I am sorry, can I be a childless asshole right now? How does it take 36 months to save up for a trip to Destin Florida?

Scary financial position to be in when you're expecting a second child…

She has a 6000+ square foot house!  That's nuts.  She justified it saying that they bought the house because it's a foreclosure in a great location so it was a good buy, despite being more house than they wanted.  But even if it's a foreclosure, the house was obviously a stretch for them financially.  I'm glad that she has the good sense to not spend a lot of money renovating this monster home, but it feels like because money is so tight there's not a lot of content.

And I posted this in the old forum and no one responded (so I thought I was the only one reading her) but she told Sherry from Young House Love that she was pregnant before she told her husband – both times?  I've never had a kid, but I'd assume you'd tell your husband first.  She told him about this second pregnancy in front of the rest of their family.  I'd be pissed if I were him.  She said he didn't care.

I read it more as they had all agreed to go when they had toddlers…which took three years.

I don't read her but what I've seen doesn't really bother me that much.

Yeah, it's a HUGE house. The basement is, like, its own house. Hope her husband's job is stable (he was working from home but has to go to an office now, so I wonder what's going on there).

I thought that was weird too!!!

That was my take on it as well.

6000 square feet?  That sounds like a nightmare.  Imagine having to furnish 6000 square feet, maintain and keep it clean.  Yuck.  I'm cool with my ~400 square feet here in the city, thanks.

She posted that they got that monstrosity for under $300k. Where on earth does she live that you can get that much house for so little?

She also talked about giving up cable, her cell phone & car to buy the house. I would HATE to have to do that to buy my "dream house."

And it's a 6000 square foot McMansion. My idea of hell! We rent a recently built (less than 3 years old) condo and already the shoddy construction is apparent. It's annoying contending with these problems in a 700 square foot condo… would hate to be saddled with a house that big. And ugly!

Don't they live outside of Nashville? They must live WAY outside in a new or undesirable suburb, as Nashville's not that cheap.

I am THRILLED to see this thread. I followed her for a few minutes because Sherry at YHL talked her up so much, and she seemed kind of fun…then I started reading her mile-long posts, her excessive exuberance, her cream puff hamminess…DESPISE. I even hate-read her for a while, and I never do that. The squeeful sponsored posts OF DOOM are what finally drove me away.

She clearly makes me ALL CAPS bitchy. I can handle KERF. I can live with Elsie. But Katie Bower needs to GOMI right now.

I think they live outside Atlanta. Waaaay outside, yet still somehow in the suburbs.  I live in Nashville so I know there's no way in hell you could buy a 6000 sq ft house for less than $300K–but the thing is, Atlanta's bigger and even more expensive!  All I can think is that this house must be in an undesirable location–so far outside the city as to barely count as a suburb, or next to a sewage plant or something.

I only ever looked at Bower Power after I started reading YHL, and I still find it so hard to believe Sherry is best friends with this woman. She seems so fake, so humble-braggy, so hyper-religious and faux-Southern-gracious. . . .  And if YHL aren't great designers (though I think they've had some good ideas), this lady really sucks.  She recently won best design blog on Apartment Therapy (which is a bullshit contest to drive up AT's traffic, but still), and all of the other nominated blogs put this one to shame.  Every time I've visited the site–which is only a handful of times, so maybe I'm missing something–it's been a post where she goes to a big-box store to buy a bunch of boring crap.  And yeah, I think McMansions are automatically boring, so watching her "design" for one with no unusual or innovative ideas is . . . well, I don't know why anybody wants to read her blog.

And yeah, there was a thread about her relatively recently, and somebody mentioned that she'd told her husband she was pregnant at the same time she told the rest of the family, at a big gathering or something.  That strikes me as so bizarre, and I don't even have kids.  It's like, does she think the pregnancy is her news alone, and her husband's role in the kid's life is equivalent to that of her parents and siblings and all the other family members?  Like, isn't it equally his news to share?  It would be the equivalent of . . . I don't know, of my husband gathering the whole family together to announce that we were moving across the country–and it being the first I'd heard of it, too.  I'd be fucking pissed.
