She made another "daily eats" post http://paleomg.com/paleo-eats-day-jb/

Is it just me or is that VERY little food for a competitive Crossfit athlete who is also a professional coach, and is in the gym multiple times daily??

I love her blog, but I do wonder how she powers through so much training and coaching on what looks like about half as much as I eat in a day. I work out, but not nearly as hard as she does, and I easily eat double the amount of veg she posted in her last "What I Ate" entry.

OK, I know that no1curr, but I'm going to vent anyway. Because seriously, her "what I ate" posts just make me absolutely nuts.

From her post today:

wow….looking at your pics reallllly makes me think I need major portion control. My paleo portions are huge….I just might like eating more than you. I run extra minutes with seconds helpings in mind.

i gain weight REALLY easily Angela, so I try to keep my portions smaller. doesn’t mean it always works though

Yes, I'm sure that her body is so completely special and different that she "gains weight easily". So she can't eat more than a single sad little "sugar free chicken sausage" for lunch while Crossfitting twice a day (including a 40 minute AMRAP!!) or she will GAIN weight. Sorry but I am calling bullshit there. If she is truly gaining weight then I put my money on the culprit being too many chocolate-covered walnuts, paleo donuts, coconut cream concentrate, or whatever other paleo HLB crap she loves, not that she is eating too much protein and veggies. I don't get why her answer to weight gain is to scale back on her actual meals, which is probably just going to leave her MORE hungry with MORE cravings and MORE likely to eat a jar of cashew butter at night rather than eating more satisfying healthy meals. Her FB page is FILLED with people asking her for health and diet advice and I just don't understand how she became some kind of diet guru.

And is she seriously saying that her portions are small because she "gains weight easily"? She didn't say that she feels satisfied or not-hungry, just that she eats that little because she's scared of gaining weight. WTF.

If she has killed her metabolism due to restricted eating, I can buy that she would gain weight "easily" – because her body is starving and will take any food right now as protection from more starvation. But, she needs to eat, deal with the weight gain that would come from it, and let her body recover. Once her body knows it is not going to be starved, she won't just gain weight easily or hold onto that weight gained (assuming she continues a healthy lifestyle with activity and diet).

To me paleo eating is another way for many with disordered eating tendencies to hide, not all paleo eaters are disordered of course, but I do think many of the HLBs can hide their restricted diets within claims of paleo.

Or if she has a thyroid problem it could make her gain more easily from not so huge portions.

Totally agree. We've seen quite a few disordered HLBers assume the "paleo" moniker lately.

I think she has issues with food, especially with sugar. From her blog posts it sounds like she restricts herself, then she goes crazy on sugar, claims how her body can't handle it sugar anymore and pledges to avoid it for a while. Repeat.

I don't have a problem with a healthy paleo diet, but  I have to say that Paleo, gluten-free, veganism and Atkins have all been overused in the last few years by anorexics.  It's a socially acceptable way to say "I'm not eating," and have a good excuse (what I can eat isn't on the menu, etc.) I'm supportive of healthy eating, but I think I've seen so many people go overboard and overrestrict that I now have a negative view of someone who admits to being one of these eaters.

Paleo, gluten-free, whatever—fad diets are often used to hide eating disorders. Oh, I'm fine, I'm just a raw food forager vegan! But I get plenty of calories, really!
