I like her for the most part. I am big enough to admit that I'm jealous she's full-time blogging, just because I'm desperate to quit my crap job and do something else. And I do think her pictures are gorgeous. I did kind of think she sold her soul when she started that Iowa Farm thing (which, I've never read any of those posts she's done, so I really don't know what they're all about). It just came across as factory farming trying to put a better spin on their image or something.

is she blogging full time now? i always liked her blog because she did it as a hobby during her free time after work. she was so relatable because she created recipes that were quick and easy for people on the go who don't have a lot of time to prepare dinner after work and working out. her photography has gotten better and her dishes and background look staged. i was wondering what was going on with her lately, not that it's my business. just curious really.

I liked it for that reason too–She admitted to blogging FT back in the fall, I think. Someone mentioned it in the comments, so I don't think she ever came right out and said it directly (or I just spaced it off). But I like her–I'm just jealous, because I'd like to blog FT myself. And I'm excited for the baby news too! smile

She became GOMI for me when she switched to blogging FT.  I respected her as someone that was able to balance an out of home job, a blog, a regular exercise routine, (what seems like) a successful marriage and close-ties family life.  I figured if she could do all that, I could at least get a home cooked meal on the table for my family each evening.  Now, I'm just over her and her cutie pie life "mkay?"

I dont have an issue with someone blogging full-time, but I have higher expectations for quality when someone makes their cooking blog their full-time job. The quality of IGE's recipes has not increased – in fact, in my opinion, it's actually decreased. How many times can you sauce a boneless skinless chicken breast and call it a recipe? She makes Pioneer Woman-esque food and I don't get why it's so popular. I don't think there's anything wrong with down-home style cooking, but if you do it in an amateur fashion, like with anything, I'm not going to be impressed.

I would love to see her focus more on methods and techniques rather than just throwing things together in a skillet. I think she is creative and smart with flavor combinations, but her recipes would go from amateur to professional if she worked on adding nuanced steps to her cooking and executing it more deliberately.

I've concluded that the only people impressed by her blog are people who really cannot cook and are impressed by her very basic foods.

Ouch. Her food is easy to make, usually with pantry staples, and slight twists on comfort foods. At least half a dozen of her recipes are in my regular rotation. I like to think I cook just fine!

I agree with GrumpyCat. IGE is a fairly recent addition to my reader, and I really get bummed out by how many boneless/skinless chicken breasts she eats. Lots of fat-free dairy products, too.

Same here. She's always been a SOMI for me but lately I'm just finding myself bored with the food she makes. Her recipes are very approachable for someone learning to cook – pantry staples, basic cooking methods, step-by-step instructions, that kind of thing. I think she sticks to these simple recipes because they suit her target audience, and that's just fine. She's a home cook and her recipes reflect that. I guess I just get confused when bloggers go FT and their posts somehow contain less content and substance than before. Either way she seems very genuine and relatable, although her cutesy way of writing is a little much sometimes.

I like her blog for the most part, since her recipes are good "quick weeknight dinner" type meals (and I ignore the cutesy writing, like someone else said). The only GOMI part for me that she uses that stupid Recipage plugin for her archives – Back to Her Roots uses it too and I HATE it because it is so fucking hard to browse that way without clicking back and forth a million extra times. DIE DIE DIE RECIPAGE. sangry

Baby Lincoln!  And she admits to having a c-section without any "woe is me, my perfect glitter fairy birth is ruined" theatrics!  Hurray huzzah hurray!
