I'm not sure if this trend took off because of Pinterest, or if Pinterest drew my attention to it. But what is up with these food bloggers constantly making ridiculous brownies/cookies/bars/cupcakes/etc that are basically an amalgam of multiple desserts (usually packaged desserts or mixes) smushed together? Like, brownie mix topped with oreos topped with refrigerated cookie dough, maybe with some crunched up thin mints or pretzels in there, topped with a can of sweetened condensed milk and topped with Cool Whip and sprinkle of candy corn. Looks disgusting and I'd rather just have a really good slice of cheesecake or homemade Tollhouse cookie or something.

I was hoping that's what this thread would be about. I'm so sick of seeing recipes with oreos baked into tollhouse cookie dough/brownies/between brownies and tollhouse dough. Any recipes that call for a lot of processed/packaged food get an automatic side-eye from me (which is not to say that I'm not a sucker for Magnolia Bakery banana pudding (http://www.recipelink.com/cookbooks/2005/0743246616_5.html)–SO GOOD).

Seriously, what is up with the Oreos??? It's like the almond butter of baking blogs, I didn't realize that people love Oreos so much. Oreo stuffed everything.
And yeah, re: processed/packaged food recipes, it seems so stupid to me with desserts, if I am going to eat a dessert I am going to have something that I truly enjoy (where I can actually taste and appreciate the individual components) it feels like such a waste just to eat boxed mixes and refrigerated dough.

Oreos are delicious! ;) I don't know why so many people are baking with them, though… maybe because it was the 100th birthday of them last week… I dunno.

My friend and I tried this one time a few years ago, because she had heard about it. pie crust topped with cookie dough, topped with cake mix. It was horrible.

Uh, those three level brownies are good. My mom made them a while ago and called them "whroety brownies" because they're so easy, but I suspect that's because she wanted to say "whroety".

Usually when I try to find recipe for some american food it's impossible to make that anywhere outside America cause you guys use a lot of that premade stuff. When I see title like " only three ingrediens cake/ chicken or whatever" I want to slap someone! How is box of something premade, can of other thing premade and possibly soda ( exstra disgusting) a ingredient? Ingredients are butter, milk, flour, chocolate, sugar etc.!!!

True! We don't all eat like that! I think that just came about through working moms who had little time to make dinner. I know my mom did that sort of thing. Cream of chicken soup seems like a staple in a lot of recipes.
I remember trying to find a recipe to something a while back (wish I could remember what it was, I'm sure it was a dinner entree) and being frustrated that I could only find a recipe that called for boxed and canned items. I wanted to make it from scratch!

I like your mom.

I hate those cookie-inside-a-cookie-inside-a-brownie-inside-a-pie recipes. They're the turducken of the pastry world: over the top and unnecessary.
If you want to get fancy with oreos, then make them from scratch. Thomas Keller has a mean oreo recipe (though I don't think his version of the filling is quite right).

I want to check that out. I love Oreo cookies, but I hate the filling. How close to the actual cookie is Keller's recipe?

I blame Cakepsy, another one who's gone (further) down the tubes since her book deals.

I've never actually tried one at Bouchon Bakery, but here's the recipe I used when I made them.

Apparently it's actually from Bouchon Bakery.
The cookie was spot-on but the filling wasn't as sweet as actual oreos and was a bit runny. I just added a bunch of icing sugar. That did the trick.

They're ALL over Pinterest. I agree. I'm so tired of seeing the "Oreo inside a chocolate chip cookie" recipe. That sounds vile.

Seriously. I can't stand people that think that we all eat like shit because of stereotypes. Rude.

I think the point was more that you literally cannot buy a lot of that stuff outside of the US so most recipes that involve mixes are pretty useless if you're not American. It's not a stereotype that shit like that is widely available in the US.
