I have to bring this thread back after reading a recent post:

I wore the second outfit (flat boots) in Paris, and have never experienced so many people pointing and talking about me in my life! My goal for dressing in Paris was not to look like a Parisian, but a stylish American, so I totally get that I might have stood out. But to this day I'm still not sure why my outfit was such a topic of conversation! It was super comfy for a day at the Louvre, and I personally felt very good in it. But if you are European or spent a lot of time there, I would love to hear your theories, because it still puzzles me and I love learning about dress codes in other cultures! :-) Was I breaking a unspoken code, or do you think they were simply admiring my outfit?

Any Frwanch catladies out there care to chime in?  Were the Parisians admiring Ms. J's outfit?

Those boots are awful — way too clunky for that dress.

On another note, I was surprised to see J road trippin' with Meghannnn…I didn't realized they knew each other. It seems so odd — like the blog worlds are crossing…reminds of the time when Steve Urkel cameo'd on Full House! :)

From what I've seen of Parisian fashion, women prefer simple, classic attire.

Her boots are trendy and not cute. Maybe that's why they were pointing. I find it hard to believe that Parisian women were wowed by them.

Many of the Orlando women bloggers get together monthly (or whenever someone plans it). Both Meghann and J are part of that group. I don't know if Meghann goes since she moved to Tampa because I have never seen her there, but she is on the mailing list and fb group. Julie from PB Fingers is also a member.

No part of this outfit is spectacular in any way whatsoever. It's too boring to even consider that they were pointing at her because she looked awful. My best bet is that she only thinks they were talking at her/pointing because she's completely full of herself?

She really is so into herself. Maybe it's true, but I doubted it was true when I read that. I think the dress fits poorly and those boots are hideous. She probably just imagined the whole thing.

In my 8 months of living in OMGPARIS, I have not once yet witnessed another Parisian verbally comment on a random persons outfit. I cannot even picture a Parisian "pointing" at someone when it's not at either a) a fashion event, or b) actually someone insanely fashionable- and I'm sorry, but a grey sweaterdress and boots don't qualify. Even when photo shoots are happening in the streets the only people i see who have stopped to gawk are very clearly tourists. I call BS- she just wants people to tell her she looks stylish/so Parisian/etc and point out that she was in OMGPARIS and at THE LOUVRE.

Also- what made her "stand out" here wasn't her fashion- it was her hair (harsh highlights), makeup, and overplucked eyebrows.

that outfit is fine, but it's about as vanilla as you can get.  knee-high brown boots and a gray dress with a belt?  that's the fashion equivalent of a tuesday.

If people were actually pointing and staring (which I doubt) I am going to agree with the above commenter and say it was her hair and make-up.

I lived in Paris for a year, and I noticed that people do stare, but they are just looking…it's not like "staring and pointing" here, because staring there is not considered rude… could just be a cultural difference that she wasn't aware of?

Or it is because her boots are fug.  I like her sometimes, but that outfit is no.

It could just be that she wasn't wearing any tights/leggings and people were pointing because it's the middle of winter.

I am guessing that not only did they find the boots terribly fug, but the dress terribly cheap and ill-fitting. Hard to see in the pictures she chooses to share but I am betting that dress is so tight you can see the division between her buttcheeks. The combination of a cheap tight dress and huge cheap boots must have made her stand out in a Paris crowd… as a tourist desperately trying to look stylish on a dime and failing miserably.
