I used to like her more – until I watched one of her videos. She came across as SO DUMB. And vain. And not very mature or polished or sophisticated.

It's amazing the perceptions you can form in your head just by seeing someone's photos, and how they can completely change when you see them in person or see them in action.

^This.  Julia is a STUNNING woman, but her style is severely lacking.  Her style is incredibly boring, and there is always something she is wearing that looks off or cheap.  I think her beauty clouds people's judgement.  She could wear a paper sack and look good.  I honestly think she wouldn't be nearly as big as she is if she weren't so beautiful.  I know so many smaller bloggers that have much, much better style than her, but aren't as pretty so I don't think they get as much attention.

I personally find it annoying that she mentions "Thomas" in every single blog post.  Sorry, but I don't always want to hear about her husband.

Also, as said above, I can't believe how dumb and vain she comes across in her videos.  I watched her painfully boring hair curling post she did for Jose Eber and she didn't even pronounce Jose Eber correctly.  If you are doing a sponsored post, I suggest you find out how to say the sponsors name properly.

I have followed Julia since she started her blog in 2011. Sorry to say this, but it appears girlfriend has let herself go. This was Julia when I started following her in 2011: http://galmeetsglam.com/2011/08/outfit-for-a-wedding-lbd/

and this is julia now…http://galmeetsglam.com/

…. I don't see what you see qualifies as "let herself go".

I agree, she looks stunning.  So, she's gained a bit of weight…don't all women do that as they age?  She still look gorgeous (even though I don't like her style).  Not every woman is lucky enough to keep their teenage bodies once they hit their 20's, 30's and so on.  Most women would kill to look like her.

Wow, I can't believe how offended I am at the "letting herself go" comment, and I don't even like Julia.  It's comments like that that give women a bad reputation for being catty and mean to each other.  An extra 10 lbs is NOT "letting yourself go".  Okay, I'm done ranting.

Oh my god. So many lolz in that video. She certainly seems much more like a late teens/early 20s sorority girl here!

delurking here.

I read GMG from pretty much the beginning. I agree with you all about her style being kind of vanilla. She is stunning and I think her readers kind of view her life as a fairytale. (gorg, married rich, successful blog overnight, etc.) But, I do think that some of her readers are kind of alienated by her sudden switch to higher end labels. I remember reading this comment on her blog a few months back. I wonder if a lot of her readers feel this way.

You've got great style and it's great that you can afford all this stuff, even if it's on “sale” but I will not be stopping by your blog anymore. You just don't relate to me or many that can't afford Stella McCartney or Givenchy.

See, this whole talk about her body makes me really uneasy. I'd never heard of Julia or her blog so I went and checked it out. I immediately thought that she had a great body – not super-skinny like some of the other bloggers, but way more realistic. I worry that she will come here and read that someone thinks she has let herself go and then go and do something about it. That girl does not need to change her body at all and comments saying otherwise are really dangerous.

Amen.  Julia's wardrobe may not be realistic financially but her body is, she is a healthy and beautiful girl who knows how to pick clothing that actually flatters her shape.  I think a lot of these bloggers get away with wearing clothing and having no clue about the architecture of fashion because they are so thin.  Time to stop the body snarking.

That was poor wording on my part. I wrote it too quickly and didn't proofread. I think Julia has a great body, but I do think she has totally let the image she intended to portray (she reminded her readers of it numerous times in earlier entries) go. At this point, it seems like she is throwing on extremely high dollar items and calling it an outfit. 2011-early 2012, she expended a great deal of effort to mix and match her items together to create affordable, creative looks. SO do I think she has let herself go and uses her blog as a cash cow, yes I do. Do I think she is refreshing and realistic compared to the unrealistic body types like Pink Peonies and Ivory Lane? I do. I agree with the previous comment, a lot of Pink Peonies etc. outfits wouldn't look good on a normal sized person. I personally would not look good in four layered shirts. Julia doesn't need to lose weight, she is gorgeous and naturally so. However, I do feel like she has lost what made her likable. If she is making the shift to a high fashion blogger, that is her prerogative. She might lose some readers in the progress.

Agreed to all – I just wanted to add that I am loving her new haircut.  She looks a lot more mature.

Also just a thought, but perhaps her completely normal post-college/marriage changes in sizes have contributed to her dropping some of the cheaper pieces from rotation? You don't have to wear $500 blazers to look good but it is a lot easier to find flattering fit/cut in higher end pieces   than things from Forever 21 and H&M as I discovered as my own college body disappeared.  That said, you can surely hit somewhere in the middle with things from places like Zara, JCrew, Gap, Banana, etc. A $600 dress on sale for $200 is not my idea of "a steal".

This. Exactly. I discovered Julia's blog last year, and have felt that her beauty greatly outshines her style. She relies too heavily on expensive labels than actual creativity or ingenuity. Throwing on a $400 dress from Bergdorf's is not necessarily "style". Though she is an absolutely gorgeous woman, her fashion is incredibly bland and sometimes too mature.

Sadly, I have to agree with the comments regarding her YouTube videos. I do not think Julia is dumb, but she is not very articulate. She is clearly materialistic and narcissistic (I think all fashion bloggers are), but I also find her shallow and slightly annoying. Perhaps if she ran a Tough Mudder, volunteered at a non-profit, or used her popularity for a good cause, I would give her more credit.

Hey Everyone,

Julia here- I have to say that I'm both glad and super bummed that I found this thread.

I understand everything you guys are saying, but it's hard to hear things about by weight and my husband. That's extremely hurtful as my husband is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet, but I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, I'm really glad that I saw this to bring light to the fact that I may have lost touch with some of my readers with the price point of a lot of pieces I have been wearing on my blog. Obviously tastes change and I don't have the same style as when I first started my blog while I was in college. I'm completely fine if you don't relate or don't care for my style, not everyone will.

In regards to my past Youtube videos, I cringe too! I was really young and had no idea what I was doing (also very awkward and nervous) as it was a little out of my element, but I was trying something new.

I could sit here and go through every comment trying to back myself up or explain that many of the statements made were not the case, but I just wanted to come and say that I really do appreciate your comments. Although some of it was really harsh and hard to read, I do take it heart and am listening to your feedback.

The comments about the husband are uncalled for. I read some interview with him, and he is super smart and interesting. The posts about photography were extremely informative, he spent a lot of time creating something readers could really learn from.

At the end of the day, blogging is her full time job. It's not like this is her hobby after she puts in a full day at Ernst and Young. This is her job and income. She is going to do what she has to do to make money. That explains all of the sponsored posts. I like that she at least tries to include details about her personal life instead of just posting tons of sponsored pictures a la pink peonies.

I loved, loved her with blonde hair. Now she just looks older, and like a typical rich wife who can buy whatever she wants. Her earlier photos were youthful, and she was in great shape. I liked Julia better when she mixed her expensive pieces with obtainable fashions for the masses. I guess she missed the memo that the economy sucks and not everyone can eat vegan donuts and shop all day.

I read this, and 100% agreed with it- but not because of weight. I think her body looks fine. I'd say she has let herself go in terms of blog material. She no longer dances, she's not in school, she is married, so I guess her blog just makes me wonder… what does she do? Why does she wear these beautiful, fancy clothes? This is what makes me lose interest in a lot of bloggers. I don't understand blogging as a full time job– what is there to blog about? In that sense, I'd say Julia has "let go" the things that originally made her blog relate-able and interesting.

Also I don't think she needs to come in here and defend every point. Yes, comments about weight were uncalled for (she's still healthy and, let's be honest, very beautiful) and the comments about her husband were just commentary that we made based on the information provided. That's the thing with GOMI- if you're going to put your information out there, you have to be read for people to comment on it. If she takes the info and improves her blog as a result, then that's great.

Why not wear beautiful fancy clothes and take pictures of them and make a profit? What's so wrong with that? Isn't that what models do? I agree that public figures can be talked about. She clearly has a readership, it doesn't matter if someone doesn't understand why or how. If she starts losing popularity, that would be a signal for her to change.
